HACKLEY DESIGN STUDIO
A welcoming, creative space in the heart of Aberdeen.
Hi! I'm Rachel
Welcome!

I am a self taught designer, maker, sewist, knitter, you name it. I have been sewing and making my whole life. Around 6 years ago I chose to pursue my love or creating full time, and Hackley was born. Initially my focus was on creating a range of bags, accessories and homewares. I spent several years pushing my skills to design from scratch, honing my sewing and really trying to find my feet in my new creative space. I really did love what I was doing but there was always a tiny niggle that something was missing. I had no idea what that was until I met Ros and Ellie of Repair What You Wear last year. They opened me up to a new approach to my practice and led me to discover what I am truly passionate about - and that is teaching and sharing everything I know about sewing, creating, and the incredible fullfillment that can be found when we create something with our hands. Bringing people together in a safe, welcoming space to connect and learn new skills is now the focus of Hackley Design Studio. I teach classes at the amazing Lend and Mend Hub at Aberdeen Central Library and am now over the moon to be able to offer a more extensive range of classes from my own studio here at Deemouth.
Learn, find community and do something for YOU
My studio is part of the amazing Deemouth Artist Studios. You can find full location, access and parking details here. I have had a space in this creative hub since 2020. Earlier this year I took on a larger space so I could facilitate teaching and sharing my love for all things sewing and textiles with even more of you. Classes at my studio are always warm, welcoming, relaxed and above all enjoyable. I strive to provide an environment for you to learn new things, meet like minded people and carve out space for yourself.
